Mountain Piano Service

One of the things I enjoy about being a piano technician in Colorado is that the job sometimes takes me well outside the city. I provide piano tuning and service throughout the Denver metro area and, when scheduling and distance allow, to clients in Colorado’s foothills and mountain communities.

This photo was taken from the front porch of a piano client in Pine, Colorado—not a bad view for a day at work.

Colorado’s climate can be challenging for pianos. Our dry air, seasonal humidity changes, heating systems, and changes in the home environment can all affect a piano’s pitch and tuning stability. This can be especially noticeable when a piano hasn’t been tuned for a while.

If a piano has drifted significantly from standard pitch, I’ll perform a pitch correction followed by a fine tuning. I sometimes call this a “break-it-in tuning.” Once I’ve brought the piano back to pitch and tuned it, you get to break it in—play it normally and give the instrument some time to settle into its newly adjusted tension.

For most home pianos, tuning about once a year is a good general guideline. After a substantial pitch correction, however, the piano may benefit from another tuning sooner as it settles.

I service both upright and grand pianos in homes, schools, churches, studios, and performance spaces. In addition to tuning, I provide piano repair, regulation, cleaning, and general maintenance.

I’m based in Littleton and serve the Denver metro area, Boulder, and communities throughout the Colorado Front Range. For locations farther into the foothills or mountains, feel free to contact me about availability.
